Basic Culture
Inferni is, and has always been, rather different from the rest of the groups of 'Souls. Inferni typically tends to attract two things: canines with a darker mind and a darker past, and canines of coyote descent. Although Inferni was originally founded as a coyote clan, for several generations now the clan has primarily consisted of hybrids of varying percentages. Inferni has been perceived as vicious, violent, and there are several negative stereotypes regarding the clan. It's certainly true that many of the Inferni coyotes hold certain prejudices against wolves, just as many of them simply wish to live in peace, preferring to keep themselves defending their territory rather than roaming the other lands in search of a fight. The Aquila for more than two years now, Gabriel, has worked hard to dispell the myth of the horrible and wicked Inferni, preferring to keep his clan on the defensive rather than the offensive.
Inferni does not take kindly to trespassers—several of the clan's members see trespassing as an open invitation to attack, and they will not hesitate to shed blood to drive home the message that coyote territory is private property. Most members of the clan will not act aggressively when encountered outside of Inferni territory, as the coyotes prefer not to stir up trouble with everyone they encounter. In the past, the coyotes have regarded entire groups of wolves as either friendly or the enemy—in the past, a tentative alliance was formed between Jaded Shadows and Inferni, based mostly on the relationship between Kaena Lykoi and Fatin Kali. However, in much more recent times, the coyotes have considered both Phoenix Valley and Dahlia de Mai enemy groups.
Within Inferni, there are varying degrees of comradery between the members. Often times members of Inferni are connected by blood, either via direct relationships like father and daughter or cousins, aunts, and uncles. Many of Inferni's coyotes descend from the Lykoi and de le Poer bloodlines, as well as the Massacre and Mogotsi lines. Inferni does not typically adhere to wolfish standards of respect and submission, and a higher-ranked coyote will rarely assert his or her dominance without reason, nor will a lower-ranked coyote display submission excessively, though exceptions are made in regard to the Quintus coyote, which may be regarded with some level of dominance as a form of stress-relief for the canines of Inferni.
Most of Inferni is prejudiced against wolves, though if a wolf acts ambivalent toward or even curious about coyotes, most of Inferni will treat them respectfully, with varying degrees of standoffishness. A smaller number of them will be outright nasty to wolves regardless of that wolf's feelings toward coyotes. There are one or two coyotes within Inferni that will attack with little or no provocation whatsoever, but for the most part, Inferni members tend to be pretty neutral unless the other wolf decides to be troublesome, especially on the unclaimed territories.
Inferni has practiced decorating their borders with skulls, bones, and other decorations, often splashed with red paint to ward off potential trespassers. This tradition was imported to Inferni thanks to Gabriel, who discovered this practice in the Scintilla War and brought it home to Inferni upon his return. Inferni has also been referred to as a "mafia" thanks to their extensive familial connections; in early Spring of 2008 every single member of Inferni was related in some way.
Joining Information
Keep in mind a canine must be 25% coyote in order to join Inferni. Coyote hybrids of lesser percentage may be considered by exception if requested by the current Aquila. Exceptions have also been made for other types of canines, generally those who do not possess any amount of wolf blood. In any of these special cases, the Aquila of Inferni must be contacted first to make a decision about the canine in question.
It is highly advised you do not trespass onto Inferni's territory in your initial post. This goes without saying in almost all of the packs, but it is an especially important rule to keep in mind when dealing with Inferni, as some coyotes consider it very insulting and extremely threatening behavior. Newcomers are very-well advised by the skulls decorating the border to stay out until properly greeted.
In character and out of character joining is fine, but remember to adhere to the joining guidelines currently posted on the 'Souls forum. In the species portion of your application, please remember to state your characters' percentages if s/he is a hybrid and that information is not readily available on your profile.
Any member of Inferni may greet newcomers, but it is preferred if the Praeses, Vigiles, Caelum takes precedence over these threads, as these canines are the scouting ranks of the pack. If another member has already greeted the newcomer in question, it is strongly encouraged that other members (save the leaders) allow the thread to progress without joining. Remember, joining threads are supposed to be quick! Don't reply to a joining thread unless you're available to reply at least once or twice a day.
After joining, why don't you start playing the Inferni Game? You can add up points from post length and various things in Inferni. Save your points to earn cool things like custom titles, icons, and the like. You can also add yourself to our residency list! If you'd like, include a link to an in-post description of your residence and a brief description to be included in the subterritories list itself!
Laws
These Inferni laws were first enacted in early 2006 and were revised on June 18, 2009. The Aquila is the word of law in Inferni, and is responsible for judgment of a criminal as well as deciding his or her punishment, though the leader will likely consult with other Legatus ranks before carrying out sentencing.
I. Rape
Inferni is strongly against rape of any creature. Raping wolves is highly discouraged, but may not be punished, depending on the Aquila's goodwill toward the perpetrator. If a member of Inferni rapes another member canine or a non-member coyote, exile or death may result.
II. Murder
Inferni is not against the senseless slaying of wolves, of course, though members would be wise to keep afloat of Inferni's current political atmosphere, as the clan has formed alliances with certain packs in the past and killing ones' allies is never a smart move. However, murder of coyotes is strongly discouraged. Slaughter of any member by another member will usually result in a death sentence. Slaughter of any coyote not a member of Inferni will usually result in a hefty demotion or outright exile, depending on the circumstances.
III. Greeting Newcomers
Typically, the Aquila, Centurion, and Imaginifer should greet newcomers, though any member of Inferni is welcome to participate in a joining thread. Only the Aquila of Inferni has the final say on whether or not a newcomer is accepted into Inferni, though s/he may delegate these powers to a Centurion, Optio, or Caelum in some situations.
IV. Wolves in Inferni
Purebred wolves are typically not allowed in Inferni, and trespassing wolves may be regarded with extreme hostility. Three exceptions were made to this particular law: Zulifer Yfel, Ahren de le Poer, and Jasper de le Poer. The first two were mates of Kaena Lykoi, and the third is Ahren de le Poer's son by Matinee de le Poer, half-brother to Gabriel de le Poer, who was Aquila at the time of Jasper's acceptance. Only in very rare circumstances, such as those noted, are wolves permitted to join Inferni's ranks. If a full-blooded wolf is admitted to the clan, they receive the "Outsider" rank and cannot ascend through the hierarchy under any circumstances.
V. Puppies
In Inferni, you do not need to have in character permission from the leader(s) for your character breed; you must only obtain the permission of the 'Souls Assemblage and adhere to the breeding standards outlined on the main 'Souls website.
